We spent our main holiday in 2010 in Croatia, on the Murter peninsula. Once the motorhome was finally packed, we could set off on our well-deserved holiday. It's 1,507 km from our home to our destination, and I didn't want to drive it all on my own. So I found a co-driver I could trust.
But Löwi didn't want to drive the whole rest of the way, so we swapped again. At the moment it's still very overcast in Germany, but the further south we go, the better it gets. This year we stayed overnight at a rest area in Austria. The next morning we finally arrived in our destination country. The temperature keeps rising, and the sea will soon be in sight. Just before Zadar in the mountains there are these little warning signs. You should definitely heed them, as the crosswinds are very strong and can easily push a motorhome against the rock face. We finally arrived at the "Plitka Vala" campsite and were able to park in the same spot as the year before. Prices had gone up a little this year, and you could now rent berths in the harbour basin. The total cost in high season for motorhome, electricity, 2 adults, trailer, harbour berth and tourist tax was about 32 euros a day. Although the holidays had already started in Germany, the site was very empty at the end of June. The view of the little bay right from our pitch. As we also wanted to see the island from higher up, we went on a little bike ride. The harbour of Murter with its many shops – there's something going on here at (almost) any time.
A few days later we went to Vodice with several boats. This town is about 20 km south of Murter and quickly reached.
The weather that day was super warm – the surroundings, however, less so. In hindsight it turned out that some things that looked great at first glance weren't so positive after all. But our main occupation in the first few days was boating and exploring the area from the boat. A little trip to Šibenik: this town isn't directly on the sea, but on a river. In the river you can still clearly see the soldiers' former positions – little ledges everywhere with observation holes in the rock behind which a soldier could stand.
