At the beginning of June, after the long break due to Covid, we were finally on the road again, heading for Croatia. On Tuesday evening we went straight from work onto the motorway heading south. We got through without any noteworthy incidents and reached our overnight stop in Bergen, not far from the Austrian border. The pitch can be used all night and has plenty of room even for large rigs. We paid 6 euros for the night at the machine.
After a great view the next morning, and with plenty of food from the supermarket (right next to the pitch), we continued towards the border. 5 hours later we reached our first campsite in Ostro, where our friends and their two dogs were already waiting for us. We had reserved all the pitches in advance by email, as we always wanted to be next to each other on the campsites – and that worked out perfectly.
The Ostro campsite had set aside two pitches for us right by the sea. Every pitch has water and electricity. The beach bar and the restaurant are within sight. The pitches themselves are big enough, but access to them is very challenging for vehicles over 7 metres.
The next day we drove to Rijeka. Finding a parking space was one of the bigger challenges; we found one near the big "Tower Center" shopping centre. From there it's about 3 kilometres into the city.
Rijeka's city centre is beautiful and easy to explore on foot.
The next day we made a detour to Krk: quickly over the bridge and then on to the town of Krk. Here we had no problem finding a parking space for the camper right in the centre. Krk itself, with its lovely harbour, is well worth seeing.
After 3 days we said goodbye to the Ostro campsite and headed for our next destination, Pula. But before setting off, we of course emptied the waste water – and that's a challenge on this campsite. You have to drive the vehicle up a fairly big ramp, and our ground clearance was only 1 cm. There is room for improvement here.
We continued to Pula 2021.
