Heidelberg 2020

A full motorhome pitch, a campsite on the Neckar we did not like – and a lovely visit to Heidelberg Zoo.

We came from Sinsheim 2020.
The motorhome pitch we went to was completely full, so we drove to the Heidelberg campsite. I should mention that we were travelling outside the school holidays and in the middle of the week, so we were very surprised at how busy the pitches were. The campsite is right on the River Neckar and has a great view.

There isn't enough electricity, and the pitches are allocated on the principle of "find yourself a free spot". The showers and toilets are ancient and could do with a renovation, but they are clean. The fresh water and waste disposal facilities are a real disaster: you let the waste water run into a drain located on the sloping entrance road, and if the water doesn't run into the drain, you can help it along with a grey drainpipe.

Fresh water can only be filled from a permanently installed hose. As I only use my own hose, that was out of the question for me. There's a Rewe supermarket less than a 5-minute walk away, and the bus to Heidelberg stops in front of the campsite.

As we didn't like the campsite at all, we moved on after just one night and looked for a nice new campsite. But first we visited Heidelberg Zoo. With the van we got a parking space right in front of the entrance. Admission is 12.80 euros per person. A great zoo that's worth coming back to.

On to Mainz 2020.
