Petra had always wanted to see the musical "Hinter dem Horizont..." in Berlin, so in 2013 we spontaneously decided to drive to Berlin. As we already had Friday off, we set off for the capital on Thursday at lunchtime.
We had pre-booked the weekend at the Berlin motorhome pitch in Tegel. As we arrived after 6 p.m., we were sent the code for the entrance gate in advance. The pitch is very quiet and has electricity, fresh water/waste water, toilets and a shower block. Overnight prices depend on the size of the vehicle and the time of year, ranging from 10 to 21 euros per night.
There is a supermarket and a bakery (open on Sundays) nearby. The train station and various other shops are a 10-minute walk away. On Friday we first rode the scooter right across Berlin to fulfil one of my wife's dearest wishes: Barcomi's Deli café is famous for its unusual cakes.
Driving a car or scooter through Berlin is no fun, so on Saturday we took the train. Sightseeing was on the agenda, starting in Berlin-Mitte and heading towards the Brandenburg Gate.
Then we took bus line 100 to Alexanderplatz. A short stop at another important station and a little shopping. Then on by bus to Zoo station. The bus line passes most of the sights, so you save yourself an expensive sightseeing tour on the other buses. On Saturday evening we went to the musical. On Sunday, unfortunately, we had to head home again.
