Whitsun was just around the corner and we had arranged to meet Rita and Bernd. This time our destination was Holzminden.

On Friday afternoon we got a message from Rita, who had already arrived: the site was full and they had moved on to Höxter. Fifteen minutes later came the next message: everything was full there too. So back to Holzminden.

There they spoke to the owner, Mr Wagner, who offered to let them park at the edge and wait for a pitch. No sooner said than done.

When we rolled in at 6 pm there was still nothing free, so we also parked at the edge, right behind Bernd.

After a warm welcome we first went shopping at the supermarket 100 metres away. Bernd stayed behind to keep an eye on the motorhomes.

When we came back 30 minutes later, Rita almost had a fit: the motorhome and Bernd were gone. After five minutes of searching we found Bernd with the motorhome on the site – so Rita had a roof over her head after all and did not have to sleep outside. We found a small pitch too and moved our motorhome.

As always, the owner came round and we ordered rolls and a newspaper for the next morning. On the first evening there was lots of talking and laughing in fantastic weather.

On Saturday we had a lie-in and then enjoyed the rolls delivered right to the motorhome. Great service.

At midday we walked into town for a stroll. The town centre is only 10 minutes away on foot, just over the bridge and you are there.

The weather got better and better and the sun was blazing. We men enjoyed some peace and quiet in the ice cream parlour while the women went shopping.

The open-air pool is right next to the motorhome site. After shopping we went for a swim and did a few lengths. Admission is 3 euros for adults and 1 euro for children, a hot shower costs 50 cents.

The campsite stretches right along the River Weser.

Behind the site there is a lovely lake with a chance to do some sport :-)

We cycled along the lovely path beside the Weser to Höxter. Our goal was the Pammel bakery in the town centre.

On the way we met a few fellow travellers.

Höxter is a beautiful town with lots of sights worth seeing.

We had our Sunday brunch at Café Pammel – simply delicious and really great. We can highly recommend it. Sunday brunch starts at 10 am.
