We spent a weekend in Ottenstein. Ottenstein lies on a high plateau near Bodenwerder. The little village has a nice shop and a great butcher's. The shop is also open on Sundays.
We arrived on Friday, and after a little shopping in the village shop we explored the pitch. We came across a few things here that we hadn't seen before. There is a barbecue area with a grill and grate, as well as a boules court, with the balls kept in a box that anyone can use. Electricity is available from bollards, and fresh water and waste disposal are via a modern system. An overnight stay costs 5 euros, paid in an envelope that you post in a letterbox a little way down the road.
On Saturday we cycled 12 kilometres to the spring market in Bodenwerder. A word of advice here: electric bikes have a big advantage. The way to Bodenwerder is almost all downhill – which means the way back is 12 kilometres of continuous uphill.
The spring market was nicely laid out in the town centre and along the Weser. Before heading back, we quickly stocked up at Keks Ronny's biscuit shop.
In the evening we tried out the great barbecue area and the boules court.
On Sunday we went home again.
One more note: from morning to evening, tractors drove past the pitch, sometimes every 10 minutes. Even on Sunday they started at 6.30 a.m. Whether that's an exception or normal, we can't say. In any case, we'll visit the pitch again and give an update then.
