Wieltsee 2015

Before the end of the season we wanted to take our boat out on fresh water once more and enjoy a nice weekend, so for a change we chose a place on the Weser. We really liked the marina on the Wieltsee lake, and after a quick phone call the reservation was done.

Our arrival with two motorhomes and two boats went smoothly, but manoeuvring at the marina was a bit more difficult. The car park is very full, especially on a sunny weekend, and when two rigs each over 15 metres long turn up, it gets tight. The site warden Jürgen was super nice and helped wherever he could.

The slipway is very steep and not suitable for motorhomes – no problem for Jürgen, who organised a car with a driver to launch the boats for us.

On Saturday we took the boats into Bremen. On the way we passed a fuel station for boats with petrol, a rarity in Germany. Going downstream, you have to pass through a lock before Bremen; there is a smaller one specially for pleasure boats. After about an hour we were through and reached Bremen. We moored at the Marina Schlachte – although it was full, we found a space. A few hours cost 3.50 euros. 5 minutes later you're right in the city centre. A little tip: don't just go to the first ice-cream parlour on the promenade. On the way back we had to use the big inland lock, as the pleasure boat lock was broken. Waiting there with the boats was a strange experience. Back on the lake, we dropped anchor and swam a few laps. But it's important to have a very long anchor chain, as the lake is over 20 metres deep in places.

When taking the boats out of the water, we were again put in touch with a vehicle.

The cost for the motorhome, electricity and boat was a very reasonable 38 euros for the whole weekend.
