For our meet-up with Jeannine and Frank, we chose the Möhnesee near Soest as our destination. On Friday afternoon we set off for North Rhine-Westphalia, 190 kilometres away. The motorhome pitch is easy to miss and the entrance is very narrow.
Once on the site, the first thing was to find the others. The pitch is laid out in terraces with 5 separate lanes. Turning in the lanes is very difficult with vehicles over 8 metres – and even for smaller motorhomes when the lane is full of vehicles. So it's best to get out and look for a space on foot.
After we had found the two of them and greeted each other warmly, we moved our get-together into the motorhome, as unfortunately the weather (mid-March) had turned.
Saturday: cold wind but dry. So we went out and set off for the dam, about 2 kilometres from the pitch. A look at the information board showed that boat trips are also offered – unfortunately it didn't say in which season.
The reservoir, built in 1913, lies on the north-western edge of the Arnsberg Forest nature park. The dam crest is about 650 metres long, and here too you'll find love locks. After the dam we continued our little hike towards Günne, walking all the way around the Möhne overflow basin. The motorhome pitch is beautifully situated with a direct view of the lake. There is a toilet block with separate showers and a washing-up room with hot water.
Fresh water and waste disposal are no problem. An overnight stay costs 12 euros per motorhome for 24 hours, with all facilities including electricity included.
You have to validate a parking ticket at the machine and display it in the windscreen.
There are very few places to get change, so be sure to bring enough suitable coins.
There are a few restaurants and a fish shop nearby. A grocery van is said to come through the village.
Recommendation: be sure to buy enough food beforehand.
