We came from Oberhausen.
In the afternoon we reached the Cologne motorhome harbour. As it was midweek, there were still plenty of spaces free. For weekend visits, a reservation is recommended.
The motorhome harbour in Cologne is surrounded by greenery yet central. It lies right on the Rhine in Cologne-Riehl and has enough space for around 65 motorhomes. The city centre is 10 minutes away by tram.
The pitch is open all year round. An overnight stay costs 10 euros per 24 hours per vehicle, including rubbish disposal. Electricity is available for a fee (50 cents per kWh). There is a service station for fresh water and waste disposal.
Tram number 18 took us into the city – simply get off at the cathedral. The pedestrian zone and the Christmas market at the cathedral start right there.
The nearest supermarket is a bit far from the pitch – too far to walk. So the clear recommendation is to stock up on food before driving to the motorhome pitch.
The next morning, at 17 degrees (one week before Christmas), we went to Cologne Zoo, only two kilometres away. Admission is 17.50 euros per person. It was a lovely visit and we will definitely do it again.
In the afternoon we left Cologne and drove on to the motorhome pitch in Dormagen. The pitch is on the edge of the Zons district. Electricity is available at bollards, and the overnight fee is 5 euros per night. But be careful at the entrance to the pitch: it is very steep, and vehicles with a long rear overhang will scrape. Even we only got down after pumping the air suspension right up.
Our next stop was the Haribo outlet store in Neuss, which has everything a Haribo fan could wish for.
On to Krefeld, 25 kilometres away, where our goal was the Christmas market and a visit to the Coca-Cola truck.
We drove on to Roermond.
