Warstein 2014

Over the 1 May bridging days we stayed at the lovingly laid-out Camperpark in Warstein – with a visit to the leisure pool and a tour of the Warsteiner brewery.

This time the destination for our 1 May bridging-day tour was the town of Warstein, well known for the brewery of the same name.

We arrived in Warstein on Wednesday evening. It's about 180 km from Hanover to our destination, mostly on the motorway. Before heading to the motorhome pitch, we did some shopping in town. Right on the main road there are Edeka, Rossmann, Deichmann, Lidl and Aldi, with parking for motorhomes.

The motorhome pitch we chose for the next 5 days was a little outside Warstein, about 3 km away.

But those 3 kilometres are really worth it. The whole site has been laid out with a great deal of love. Every pitch has electricity, and fresh water and waste disposal are no problem even for big vehicles. You can register for the "Camperpark" pitch at the restaurant on site.

Overnight stay: 8 euros
Electricity: 2 euros
Fresh water per 100 l: 1 euro

Wi-Fi (as of 1 May 2014) is only available in the restaurant and no longer on the pitch. With a T-Mobile phone you only get EDGE on the pitch.

The "Bayernstadl" restaurant is right next to the pitch by the small pond. On 1 May we set off to relax at the "Allwetterbad Warstein" leisure pool. The pool is small, but has everything you need to relax: a swimmers' pool with an adjoining non-swimmers' area, a diving tower, a paddling pool, several whirlpools and an outdoor pool.

Admission prices without sauna:

Adults 1.5 hours = 3.50 euros
Adults day ticket = 5.50 euros

After 2.5 hours of swimming and relaxing, we walked back to the pitch through the centre.

In the meantime Jeannine and Frank (and Balou) had arrived too. The sun was at its best, and a short time later the barbecue was out. Rita and Bernd had given us a bottle of their finest, which, ice-cold, slipped down all by itself on that wonderful afternoon. Thank you, Rita and Bernd.

On Friday morning a short sightseeing tour of the town was on the programme. Another item was the brewery tour. The visitor centre is a few kilometres outside Warstein. When we got there, reality set in: without registration, it doesn't look good. So we registered for Saturday morning at 10 a.m., had a quick bratwurst and a beer at the visitor centre and went back to the pitch.

As the visitor centre and the motorhome pitch are on the same side of Warstein, the brewery is only about 2 kilometres from the pitch. From the pitch, turn left down the road and then take the first road on the right. Keep going straight on over the hill, and you'll see the visitor centre on the left.

The next morning at 10 a.m. we were at the brewery right on time for the tour, together with only 4 other people. So we had an (almost) private tour of the brewery. The visit was definitely worth it, but unfortunately the bottling plants aren't running at weekends (only Monday to Thursday).

We spent the evening in the restaurant at the pitch.
