At the weekend the Harz was our destination. According to the pitch guide, there are two motorhome pitches in Wernigerode: "Am Katzenteich" and "Parkplatz Anger".

We chose the "Am Katzenteich" pitch, as it is very central, yet quiet (in the evening) and surrounded by greenery.

Address:
Am Katzenteich
38855 Wernigerode

The narrow-gauge railway runs behind the pitch, so it's a good starting point if you want to take the train up the Brocken. We heard the first steam locomotive at around 8 a.m. As far as I know, it's the only pitch in Wernigerode with electricity. Driving onto the pitch wasn't possible at night. There are shops about 400 m away.

Fresh water and waste disposal:
Toilet disposal
Fresh water

Fees:
Pitch 5 euros per entry (the fee is charged each time you pass through the barrier)
Electricity 1 kWh = 1 euro at the machine

The old town and the town centre are about 800 m away and quickly reached on foot. On the market square you'll find the town hall and the Wohltäterbrunnen fountain, among other things. The town hall was built in the 12th century and served as a courthouse and dance hall.

The iron fountain was erected in 1848 and is meant to remind people of their prosperity. Other great places to visit are the castle, the many little lanes and the smallest house (now a museum). We took the Wernigerode tourist train up to the castle (return 4.50 euros per adult).

From the castle there is a wonderful view as far as the Brocken. A tour of the castle is a must. You can read about the castle's history here.

On the way to the castle there are also some very interesting weather stations to discover. Wernigerode is worth it: a beautiful old town, and the castle is a MUST.
