After our eventful day at Leipzig Zoo, our journey continued to Dresden. There we had booked into the Wostra campsite – an excellent choice. The site is modern, spacious and very well kept. We particularly liked its quiet location on the edge of the city and its good transport links, so you can enjoy both nature and city life.
A highlight awaited us on the very first evening: we crossed the Elbe by ferry – a little experience in itself – and made our way to the Kaminrestaurant. We spent a wonderful evening there. The cosy ambience and delicious food, surrounded by nice people, made for a great end to the day.
The next morning we grabbed our bikes and followed the Elbe cycle path towards the city centre. The ride itself was a pleasure: the river, the wide meadows and the first glimpses of the city's skyline made the route an experience. Of course the "Blue Wonder" bridge couldn't be missed.
In Dresden we treated ourselves to a leisurely breakfast right by the Frauenkirche – a wonderful place to soak up the special atmosphere of the old town. Of course a visit to the church itself was a must. The impressive building, a symbol of both destruction and reconstruction, made a deep impression on us.
Then we made our way to the world-famous Dresden Zwinger. The Baroque complex with its ornate pavilions, wide courtyards and impressive galleries is an absolute must on any visit to Dresden. We were particularly delighted by the architecture and the lovingly designed details – you almost feel transported to another time.
The Zwinger is not only an architectural masterpiece but also a place where art, culture and history come alive. Walking through the complex, we could enjoy the beauty and elegance of Dresden Baroque to the full.
