In October 2009 we spent a week on the popular holiday island of Sylt. We travelled to the island via Rømø (Denmark), as this was considerably cheaper for our motorhome: the car train would have cost 120 euros return for a 6.00-metre camper, the ferry only 70 euros. But ferry prices also rise quickly if the motorhome is longer than 6.01 metres. The harbour in List and the surrounding area invite you to stroll around.
In List we went on a trip on a fishing boat to the seal banks. On the way we could also see the ferry from Rømø to List and the northernmost houses in Germany. Right next to them is the lighthouse known from the Jever beer advert. Unfortunately we couldn't get any closer to the seal banks. We spent the week at the campsite in Wenningstedt. This village is about 6 km from Westerland and 4 km from Kampen. The pitches are sheltered from the wind of the stormy North Sea. You reach the beach via a long wooden boardwalk through the dunes. The sea was already quite rough at this time of year.
On the beach is the Wonnemeyer beach café, where you can eat and drink comfortably behind sheltered windows with a view of the sea. The shower block was spotless and always clean. There is also a shop, Wi-Fi and a TV room.
