The New Forest is a woodland area near Southampton.
New Forest ponies live in this forest and can roam freely rather than being shut in any enclosure.
In what is now a national park in Hampshire, several thousand ponies live in semi-wild herds today. Our first stop was the little village of Burley. Typical English buildings line the streets, and in between there are horses again and again.
Larger herds roam right in the forest.
Our next stop was Christchurch.
At the heart of Christchurch is the Priory church.
This imposing church has stood as a monument right in the centre for almost 900 years.
The nave and the quire are rightly famous as the home of the "Miraculous Beam", and people come from all over the world to marvel at it (so we were told). A famous feature is the Jesse reredos, the altarpiece of the great quire.
The tower was right nearby.
