We used one of the last lovely weekends in September to go out in the boat once more. The weather was at its very best. As we had just received our new Malibu Van, we drove it to Almere Poort. That weekend Katrin and Lars had also rented a "bubble" (a small wooden lodge on the water).
The plan for the weekend was quickly made: boating and sightseeing in Amsterdam. On Saturday morning we went out to sea in the boat and headed for Amsterdam.
Just before Amsterdam came the question: "Why not see Amsterdam by boat?" And so our plan took shape.
After an exciting and funny trip through the lock (the lock keeper kept insisting that more boats would fit in), we arrived on the Amstel.
At some point we took our boat into the canals and marvelled at Amsterdam from the water. Luckily we were able to fold down our canopy, otherwise we would have got stuck at the third bridge. The next morning we wanted to explore Amsterdam on foot once more and took the train from Almere Poort. A day ticket cost 19 euros per person, and the train stopped right at Amsterdam Central Station (journey time about 20 minutes).
A visit to the "Ripley's Believe It or Not!" museum was also on our list. Our final stop was the Hard Rock Cafe in Amsterdam for food and shopping. This weekend too was over far too quickly, and unfortunately it also marked the end of the boating season.
