Dishoek 2013

Our Easter 2013 tour to Zeeland was all about "shopping and relaxing": the beach at Dishoek, Vlissingen, Middelburg and an Easter market – despite frozen water pipes.

Our Easter 2013 tour was all about "shopping and relaxing".

Four years ago we had spent a great holiday week in Domburg in the Netherlands, so our route took us back to Zeeland. As four years ago, we had booked a campsite through Roompot – this time not Hof Domburg, but Dishoek. We arrived on Thursday evening, quickly set up and enjoyed the evening.

On Friday the beach was first on the programme. From the campsite you go straight over the dune steps to the beach, and as the weather was really lovely, our trip to the beach turned into a longer walk.

As Good Friday isn't a public holiday in the Netherlands, we could use the day for extensive shopping trips. Vlissingen is only 6 kilometres away and quickly reached on our scooter. The town centre is beautiful, and all the little bric-a-brac shops offer everything your heart could desire. So it was no wonder the first bags filled up very quickly.

In the afternoon we got a little message from our neighbours saying they had just been shovelling snow – and we had sunshine.

On Saturday we went to Middelburg, about 15 kilometres away. The town centre is a dream and the abbey church an eye-catcher. On Easter Sunday there was an Easter market in Vlissingen. It had turned windy and cold, but stayed dry. There was music everywhere, and it's quite funny to hear the song "Cowboy und Indianer" in Dutch.

On Monday we headed home again, and this holiday in the Netherlands was once again very restful and relaxing.

The campsite is right on the North Sea, separated from it only by the dune. On the site itself there is a small supermarket and a restaurant, but unfortunately it wasn't open.

We had booked a "Comfort" motorhome pitch with a water connection. Unfortunately all the pipes were frozen and so couldn't be used. The showers in the washrooms were only lukewarm, even when no one else was using them.
