Travel diary – Easter trip 2026, part 1: Emmen (Netherlands)

Over the Easter holidays in 2026 we took the motorhome to Emmen in the Netherlands – an ideal combination of nature, relaxation and adventure. Our temporary home was the idyllic Minicamping Emmen: quietly located, generously laid out and with a pleasantly personal atmosphere. Just the right place to switch off and consciously enjoy the days.

Day 1 – A visit to Wildlands Adventure Zoo Emmen

The first day took us straight to Wildlands Adventure Zoo – and the visit was simply outstanding. The park stands out clearly from classic zoos: instead of individual enclosures, an immersive world awaits you that realistically recreates different continents and habitats.

Particularly impressive was the lovingly designed safari landscape. Wide plains, gentle hills and natural bodies of water create an authentic backdrop in which giraffes, zebras and rhinos look almost as if they were in the wild. The viewpoints are chosen so that fences are hardly visible – a concept that allows an exceptionally intense experience of nature.

Another highlight was the tropical jungle hall. Dense vegetation, high humidity and free-flying birds give you the feeling of being in the middle of the rainforest. Here architecture and nature merge in an impressive way.

No less fascinating was the Arctic themed world: a detailed ice landscape with impressive insights into the life of polar bears and other polar animals. The underwater areas in particular allow unique observations that you rarely get to experience.

All in all, the zoo impresses with a well-thought-out overall concept: spacious habitats, high animal welfare standards and an exceptional staging of the landscapes. The visit was not only entertaining but also educational – an experience of the very highest standard (top marks).

Day 2 – A stroll through Emmen

On the second day we went into town for a relaxed stroll. In brilliant sunshine we explored Emmen by bike – an ideal way to get to know the town.

The town centre was modern, open and inviting. Numerous shops, cafés and small boutiques invited us to browse. The generous layout of the pedestrian zones was particularly pleasant, offering plenty of room for a relaxed stroll. The combination of urban flair and relaxed atmosphere made this day a real pleasure.

Day 3 – Pure relaxation

The third day was deliberately all about unwinding. Without any fixed plans, we enjoyed the peace on the campsite, the lovely weather and the nature around us.

A good book, a coffee in front of the motorhome and simply doing nothing for once – it's exactly these moments that make a trip like this so valuable. The relaxed surroundings of the minicamping were the perfect backdrop.
