This year we spent our autumn holiday in the Netherlands, on the IJsselmeer. In advance we had picked out two lovely year-round campsites, one in Lemmer and one in Workum.
We arrived at the site in Lemmer on Sunday at around 3 p.m. in heavy rain. We quickly found the reception building, but unfortunately the door was locked, with no opening hours or phone number posted.
So we called the second site and asked whether it was open. "No problem, just come along," said the friendly woman on the other end of the line. So 30 minutes later we arrived at the "It Soal" campsite in Workum, Friesland, on the IJsselmeer.

The site offers everything for a longer stay: its own supermarket, several playgrounds, a restaurant, a beach, fresh water and waste disposal for motorhomes, washrooms with individual showers and washbasins, washing machines, a baby changing room and more.
We parked on the motorhome pitch, as the other camping areas couldn't be driven on because of the continuous rain. Every pitch has its own electricity connection, fused at least 6 A. At the time of our trip, at the beginning of October, the site was practically empty – we counted around 10 other holidaymakers. The whole site was clean and well kept, and the washrooms were spotless. An overnight stay on the motorhome pitch costs 18 euros including electricity. The village centre is about 600 metres away. Workum is a picturesque village with little canals and plenty of shops. The heart of the village is the market square with its little cafés.
As it was still raining on Wednesday, we left and drove back to Germany.
A little tip about the campsite: if you say at registration that you expect to stay until a certain day, this counts as a reservation, and no money is refunded if you leave early. This wasn't mentioned when we checked in, so we got our money back anyway.
