The trip was very relaxed – you could move freely around the boat, both inside and on deck. It was particularly lovely outside: fresh air, calm water and new perspectives on the islands again and again. In between there were explanations about the region, the history of the archipelago and the life of the people there. For us it was a perfect mix of nature, slowing down and an impressive backdrop.
After returning, we went straight on to the changing of the guard at the Royal Palace in Stockholm, just a few minutes from the pier.
The ceremony was much more elaborate than we had expected. The guard marched onto the square accompanied by music, with precise movements and clearly coordinated routines. Particularly impressive was the discipline and synchronisation of the soldiers – every step was exact.
Depending on the day, the changing of the guard is even accompanied by a military band, which makes it all the more festive. Lots of spectators gather in the courtyard, but the atmosphere was still pleasant and not too crowded. For us it was a lovely insight into Swedish tradition and a short but worthwhile item on the programme.
