On Tuesday, after the massage, we drove to the Pula marina, a huge harbour in Veruda. We wanted to find a skipper there to take us sailing. Unfortunately we had no luck at the marina. After a lot of searching online we found a skipper in Rovinj and arranged a trip for Thursday straight away.

On Wednesday the Pula Aquarium was on our list. By bike we quickly reached the aquarium 8 kilometres away and marvelled at the fish. The aquarium is housed in an old fort, and the high-season admission of 130 kuna per person is reasonable.

The next morning we drove to Rovinj, where we had booked a sailing trip with a skipper through Spark Sailing. Parking a camper in Rovinj is difficult: we could not get into the first car park because of a 2.5-metre height barrier, and we were sent away from the second because campers are not allowed there. In the end we found a small car park for campers and coaches, which was still empty early in the morning. From there we walked the 1.8 kilometres to the meeting point. At 10 o'clock sharp our skipper Jura arrived with his 35-foot sailing boat.

As soon as we were out of the harbour we got a short introduction to sailing and the sails were hoisted.

There was not much wind, so the sailing was a bit slow, but Jura did everything to make it a lovely trip. Later we sailed into the Lim Channel and managed to sail a bit more. Our trip ended there and we were driven straight back to Rovinj by car. A great skipper, it was well worth it, and we will definitely do it again.

In the afternoon we arrived at our familiar Lighthouse campsite in Umag.

We had hardly arrived when a panel van from the Westerwald pulled in: Nahid and Christoph were there too. We spent the rainy evening in the restaurant, swapping stories.

The weather turned, and rain with thunder and lightning moved in.

Friday was all about pampering: we had booked a pedicure and massage at Beauty Donna.

We spent the following week playing tennis, relaxing, eating well and so on. So here are a few tips:

  • Massage, pedicure, manicure: donna-umag.hr – appointments in person, by phone or via the website. Staff speak English.
  • Tennis with a coach: Umag Tennis Academy – very good coaches, book via the website or on site. Lessons in English.
  • Delicious ice cream and good coffee at fair prices with the best view of the bay: Caffetteria – Gelateria "Garibaldi". Right next door is Konoba Garibaldi, serving upscale food.

After a week we set off early on Friday morning, heading home to Hanover.
