For us the nice thing about this tour was that every port day was followed by a sea day, so there was always time to relax.

We arrived in New Orleans punctually at 9 a.m.
The 5-hour trip up the Mississippi was calm. But the weather wasn't at its best: 14 degrees and overcast.
Never mind – jackets on and off into town. We hadn't booked an excursion for New Orleans, and we wouldn't recommend one either. The terminal is right in town next to an outlet centre.

We had already worked out our own individual sightseeing tour for New Orleans before the trip.

Our first destination was the French Quarter. The striking differences between the various districts are impressive – old right next to new.

It's also worth walking along Fulton Street.

After we had ticked off our sights and the sky was looking more and more threatening, we headed for the Riverwalk shopping mall.

A huge outlet centre right at the terminal. The food court has everything your stomach could want, and the vendors sometimes put on a little show with singing.

Just before we reached the entrance, it started pouring with rain and didn't stop all day. So we spent the rest of the day in the mall.

The next day the Vita set sail at 12 noon, heading back out to the open sea.
