In our trip's Facebook group we then read that fellow passengers who had booked an excursion with locals had seen the northern lights. They weren't simply driven to one spot in the hope that there would be northern lights there; instead they drove specifically to places where there were no clouds.
So for us it's clear: next time we'll book with locals and not do this AIDA excursion again.
On our 2nd day in Alta we had booked the excursion to the ice hotel through AIDA (99 euros per person, ALF02A). At 2.30 p.m. sharp we set off for the ice hotel. Past impressive scenery, we reached the hotel after 30 minutes.
The ice hotel in Alta, Norway, is fascinating accommodation that is rebuilt from snow and ice every year. It's a truly unique hotel that delights visitors with its cool elegance and breathtaking beauty.
In the evening we left Alta, heading for the North Cape.
We had already booked the excursion to the North Cape with AIDA in advance (HVG21).
Unfortunately the weather put a spoke in our wheel. Normally we would have gone to the North Cape from Honningsvåg. But as the wind was too strong, docking wasn't possible. However, the captain steered the ship so that we could see the North Cape from the sea.
