Then we made our way to a viewpoint on the other side of the harbour. A bit arduous in the wet conditions, but the view of the harbour was worth it. The low-hanging clouds gave Bergen a mystical atmosphere.

Despite the persistent rain, it was a rewarding tour of Bergen – a city with lots of history, maritime flair and impressive views.

The next morning AIDAsol set course for Tromsø, and we had two sea days. The crossing was again dominated by storm and waves, this time up to 7 metres high. Plates and glasses had to be held on to, as they threatened to slide off the table.

But these two days also passed very quickly, and on 6 March we reached Tromsø, the "capital of the Arctic". Nestled between snow-covered mountains and deep blue fjords, a wintry backdrop awaited us that was reminiscent of a fairy tale.

As we sailed into the harbour, the snowy landscape already impressed us. The colourful wooden houses on the shore glowed in the clear winter air while the polar night reigned above us. The city, about 350 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle, greeted us with icy cold – but also with Nordic cosiness.
