Our motorhome trip began in glorious summer weather. As soon as we set off, there was that special sense of departure in the air that only a holiday full of freedom and adventure promises.
Our first stage took us to Flensburg. The motorhome site was well filled – evidently many people had had the same idea of making the most of the good weather. Despite the crowds, the atmosphere was pleasant. We quickly got talking to other travellers and met nice people who shared their own stories and tips with us.
On the second day our route took us from Flensburg towards Hirtshals, where we wanted to catch the ferry in the evening. As we had enough time, we decided on a little detour – and it was worth it.
Our destination was Ringkøbing, a charming little town on the Danish west coast. It's home to the well-known bakery Ejvinds, famous for its huge selection of biscuits. As soon as we walked in, there was a tempting smell in the air, and the display almost made us forget the time. From classic butter biscuits to sophisticated specialities, they had everything – a paradise for anyone with a sweet tooth.
After this delicious stop and a short stroll through the town, we continued our journey. The roads took us through wide landscapes and past gentle dunes until we finally reached Hirtshals. The ferry was already waiting – the next step in our adventure.
The ferry crossing from Hirtshals to Kristiansand took place in extremely difficult conditions. The sea was already very rough as we cast off, and the swell increased further during the crossing. High waves and strong winds made the ship sway noticeably, and the crossing became a gruelling experience.
After a long and rough ferry crossing, we finally reached Kristiansand during the night. Despite the late arrival, we set off to find a suitable place to spend the night with the motorhome. After driving for about an hour outside the city, we finally found a spot where we could get some rest.
So ended a very exhausting but at the same time impressive day of travel – marked by the power of the sea and the challenge of a crossing in heavy seas.
