After this experience we continued our journey towards Geiranger. The route took us high up into the mountains. Again and again fantastic views opened up over valleys, lakes and snow-capped peaks. The roads were winding and steep, but the drive was an adventure in itself. In the late afternoon we finally went looking for a suitable place to spend the night. In the midst of the Norwegian mountains we found a quiet spot from which we could enjoy the evening atmosphere up high – a perfect end to an eventful day.

After a great, quiet night, we woke up to a surprise in the morning: it had actually snowed overnight, and the temperature had dropped to just 1 degree. The motorhome was covered in a thin layer of snow, and the mountain landscape looked almost wintry – an impressive contrast to the summer month.

Our first destination was the Dalsnibba viewpoint. Unfortunately we were less lucky there, as thick fog lay over the mountains. Driving up wasn't worth it, and the wide view we had hoped for was denied us. So we continued straight on towards Geiranger.

The small village lies picturesquely on the fjord and is world-famous for its imposing waterfalls, above all the "Seven Sisters". As we drove into the valley, we could already sense its special location – steep slopes, deeply cut water and a village that seems wedged between mountains and fjord. After a short walk through the centre, however, we quickly realised that Geiranger is heavily shaped by tourism. Souvenir shops, cruise ships and tour groups dominated the scene. So after about an hour we decided to move on.

Our route took us on towards Trollstigen. The drive there was another highlight: narrow hairpin bends, breathtaking views and a constantly changing landscape. The approach alone promised that another unforgettable section of our trip lay ahead.

As it was raining more and more within a radius of 100 kilometres and no improvement was expected over the next few days, we changed our plans and drove further inland. After 150 kilometres we reached Dovre National Park. Here we stayed overnight at a beautiful spot.

After a restful night in Dovre National Park, we started the day with fresh energy. The clear air, the tranquillity and the impressive landscape had made a deep impression on us.

Our onward journey took us to the "silver moose". The huge sculpture in the middle of the landscape is a real eye-catcher – shiny, modern and yet somehow fitting with the vast forests around it. A short stop to marvel and take photos was definitely worth it.

To slow the pace of the trip for a day or two, we finally headed for Elverum and made for a campsite there. Perfect for catching our breath, tidying up the motorhome a bit and simply unwinding.
